Suburban Consolidation

My entry for Europan 9 in Dublin received 2nd place.

Rapid paced development in Dublin has lead to endless low density suburbs connected by a poor quality public realm now surrounding the centre. This monofunctional sprawl is unsustainable. My proposal combined an urban strategy with two concrete interventions in order to place the suburban neighbourhoods on the path towards low-carbon urbanism. This futures envisions the renewable city with a low ecological impact achieved through: high density urban fabric with adaptable building types linked by high quality public spaces and biodiverse parks.

The interventions are a reinterpretation of the existing park placing it as the focal point of the local community, with landscaping inspired by ancient Ogham script. The second is a new residential complex for the elderly, the complex helps forms a new edge street and creates an quieter interior world with a summer and winter garden joined by a communal living room.
