Gateway New York: NYC O2+ Delta

An entry for the Van Alen Institute Gateway national park design competition transforms the New York gateway region into an ecologically diverse area, helping to contribute to New York's carbon reduction gaols and protecting Manhattan against storm surges. The proposal also delivers a recreational environment of unprecedented quality to the people of New York.

New islands transform the bay into a delta landscape providing a ecological haven for plants and migratory birds, and a new recreational landscape for NYC. The scheme generates energy through wind turbines, solar power and coastal wave energy plants. The Floyd Bennet Airfield becomes a testbed for new concepts in renewable energy and urban ecology.
